Commissions

Monthly Commission Schedule

I accept 3 commissions per month. Each commission request is for a single piece, not multiple items. If you want more than one item, you must submit multiple requests.

  • The 21st is the last day to reserve a commission for the current month.
    • *Balances for requests accepted on or after the 21st of the commissioned-for month are due by the end of the day the 28th of the commissioned-for month.
  • On the 22nd, reservations open for the following month.

Example Schedule

September 1: Production begins for previously paid September commissions, and the turnaround timeline begins.
September 21: Last day to reserve a September commission. (A commission reserved on September 21 must be paid in full by EOD on the 28th once approved, or it is cancelled.)
September 22: October commissions open for booking only.

Turnaround Timeline

The turnaround timeline’s clock begins on the first day of actual production, not when your commission is reserved, accepted, or invoiced. Please keep the following in mind if you are commissioning a piece for a special occasion:

My average commission turnaround is approximately 8 weeks. The 8-week turnaround is an average, not a guaranteed completion date.

There are options to speed up the turnaround timeline, however they are still estimations:

  • For an approximate 6-week turnaround timeline, an extra $25 fee will be added to your invoice; this allows your piece to jump the queue for a single firing with my kiln partner for rush-firing.
  • For an approximate 4- to 5-week turnaround timeline, an extra $50 fee will be added to your invoice; this allows your piece to jump the queue for both firings (bisque and glaze) with my kiln partner for rush-firing.

Your commission contract contains the full details regarding turnaround times and production timelines.

Commission Agreement Key Points

Terms Clarification

Reserve: You claim one of the three monthly commission spots by submitting your commission request. This holds the spot while I review the request.

Review: I review the request and communicate any follow-up details or questions with you.

Accepted: Once you have communicated approval of my understanding of your idea and/or my concept for your request, I will send the invoice. Sent invoices are considered acceptance of the request.

Single Piece, Single Item and Request: A single mug, bowl, plate, etc; a piece that requires a lid and/or has two or more parts for its function is still considered a single piece/one request. A tea pot is considered one request, a single tea cup is considered one request, a tea set is not considered one request because it is not a single piece.

Payment

Full payment is required before production begins.

You have one week from the time your invoice is sent to pay the remaining balance in full. (*Balances for requests accepted on or after the 21st of the commissioned-for month are due by the end of the day the 28th of the commissioned-for month.) If payment is not received within one week, the commission is cancelled.

After payment, you have a 48-hour window to cancel the commission for a full refund, after which commissions are non-refundable.

Production

Production begins on the later of these two dates:

  • The first business day of the commissioned-for month after the 48-hour refundable cancellation window has closed; OR
  • The next business day after the 48-hour refundable cancellation window closes, if you paid your balance after the 1st of the commissioned-for month.
